The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria has inducted 115 Doctor of Pharmacy graduates of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, into the profession, with 35 of the graduands earning First Class honours.
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has inducted 115 Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) graduands of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), into the pharmacy profession, with 35 of the graduates earning First Class honours.
The induction and oath-taking ceremony for the 2025/2026 graduands of ABUAD’s College of Pharmacy was held on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The ceremony was held under the theme, “Advancing Pharmacy Practice in the 21st Century: Integrating Digital Innovation, One Health and Indigenous Knowledge Towards Global Medicine Security.”
The Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu, administered the professional oath and charged the newly inducted pharmacists to uphold the highest ethical standards and demonstrate exemplary leadership in their careers.
He urged the inductees to pursue excellence in pharmaceutical services and contribute to sustainable healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The ceremony also examined some of the emerging issues shaping the future of pharmacy practice, including digital technologies, One Health, indigenous knowledge and medicine security.
The Director-General of the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA), Prof. Martins Emeje, who delivered the guest lecture, called for greater investment in natural, traditional and indigenous medicine as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system and reduce dependence on imported pharmaceutical products.
Emeje also highlighted the growing relevance of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, telepharmacy and connected healthcare systems to modern pharmacy practice. He stressed that artificial intelligence should complement professional judgement rather than replace accountability.
The Vice-Chancellor of ABUAD, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, encouraged the inductees to uphold integrity and commitment while placing the wellbeing of patients at the centre of their professional responsibilities.
The Provost of the College of Pharmacy, Prof. Mbang Femi-Oyewo, also urged the new pharmacists to pursue competence, protect their integrity, practise with empathy and embrace innovation as they begin their professional careers.
The induction marks an important transition for the 115 graduates from formal pharmacy education into professional practice, where they will be expected to apply their training within the ethical and regulatory standards governing pharmacy in Nigeria.
With 35 of the inductees graduating with First Class honours, the ceremony also highlighted the academic performance of the latest cohort from ABUAD’s College of Pharmacy.
For the new pharmacists, the oath-taking represents not only the completion of their academic training but also the assumption of professional responsibilities centred on patient wellbeing, ethical practice and the safe and effective use of medicines.
